What is the purpose of Family Planning?
The purpose of Family Planning is to help women and their partners protect themselves from unwanted pregnancies and identify conditions that may affect reproductive health, such as sexually transmitted diseases and breast / cervical cancer. Planning for a pregnancy ensures that the parent or parents are best prepared mentally, physically, and emotionally to care for a child.

Who can receive Family Planning services?
Anyone is eligible for Family Planning. You do not have to have Medicaid or insurance to be eligible for services.  Also, women who have not had their "Tubes Tied", a hysterectomy or your partner has not had a vasectomy. 

What is included in my visit?
You will receive a yearly physical exam, which includes blood pressure / height / weight check, breast exam, lab work (pregnancy tests), pap smear, and testing for certain STDs.

What kind of birth control do you have available?
  • Abstinence
  • Depo-Provera
  • Birth control pills
  • Nexplanon
  • IUD
  • Condoms
  • Natural family planning

How much does it all cost?
The fee for services will vary for each person. Our eligibility clerk will need to know your income (bring a paycheck stub to your first visit). Your income is then compared to a sliding scale to determine your actual charges. It is possible to receive these services at no charge in some circumstances.

What if I'm trying to get pregnant?
You still can receive a yearly physical exam to be sure your body is in good shape before you become pregnant.

How do I make an appointment?
Call 252-237-3141 and ask for the Family Planning secretary to make an appointment. 

Did you know?
All women of childbearing age should take 400 micrograms of folic acid every day. Talk with your nurse to find out more.
